PUA Books

By Mr. Orange

Becoming a ladies man, or pickup artist, takes lots of practice and experience. To make the journey a little easier, I’ve made a list of the best PUA books and self-help books. If you’re new to the pickup artist community, I recommend starting with the book that brought the pickup artist community into the spotlight. The Game by Neil Strauss is the first book I read on picking up women and I highly recommend it. My list of the best PUA books also includes acclaimed pickup artist authors such as Mystery, Logan Edwards, Nick Andrews, Ross Jeffries, Savoy, and more. Besides pick up artist books, I’ve included several psychology, self-help, and success books to help you fully understand the art of pickup up women. If you have any suggestions or comments email by clicking on the contact page.

UPDATE: New sex books section for PUAs
PUA books tell you exactly how to pick up a woman but they won’t tell you what to do with her once she’s in your bed. Sexually pleasing a woman will ensure she’ll come back for round two. She’ll be knocking down your door if you can blow her mind in the bedroom. These sex books will tell you, and show you, exactly what to do. Become the man of her dreams by fulfilling every one of her sexual needs.

The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide – How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho by Brett Tate

The Art of the Pickup involves analyzing your target, determine her values, beliefs and weaknesses, and role-playing her desires.
Sexual Persuasion occurs by stimulating her subconscious emotions and desires. You create value and scarcity for yourself, remove her barriers, build trust, and initiate the close. The best Pickup Artists are teasingly cocky, have a cutting sense of humor, and the poise to pull it off with class.

The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists by Neil Strauss

Are you just another AFC (“average frustrated chump”) trying to meet an HB (“hot babe”)? How would you like to “full-close” with a Penthouse Pet of the Year? The answers, my friend, are in Neil Strauss’s entertaining book The Game. Strauss was a self-described chick repellant–complete with large, bumpy nose, small, beady eyes, glasses, balding head, and, worst of all, painful shyness around women. He felt like “half a man.” That is, until a book editor asked him to investigate the community of pickup artists. Strauss’s life was transformed.

The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene

Touted as a “handbook on the most subtle and effective form of power” and “an indispensable primer on how to take what you want from whomever you want,” this book is more than a little creepy. Following on the heels of his 48 Laws of Power, this book continues Greene’s gross exploration of social power, this time in the realm of sexual politics. In Part 1, Greene, again paired with “packager” Joost Elffers (Play with Your Food), offers a straight-faced description of the nine types of seductive character, from the “Ideal Lover” to the “Rake.”

Review: “This book is excellent, I loved reading it, the stories are extremely funny. I actually read it in one sitting. It is filled with great real life bar stories of hooking up with random hot chicks. Told from a southern california dude point of view, it is very easy to relate to as it uses real life examples in each section instead of just telling you to “be confidant or be more outgoing.” I actually hooked up with a chick the very next night after I read this book, call it coincidence but Im pretty sure reading the book played a big part in reading her signals and bieng able to close the deal. I highly reccomend reading this book!”

The Definitive Book of Body Language by Barbara Pease and Allan Pease

This international bestseller reveals the secrets of nonverbal communication to give you confidence and control in any face-to-face encounter–from making a great first impression and acing a job interview to finding the right partner.

It is a scientific fact that people’s gestures give away their true intentions. Yet most of us don’t know how to read body language–and don’t realize how our own physical movements speak to others. Now the world’s foremost experts on the subject share their techniques for reading body language signals to achieve success in every area of life.

What Every BODY is Saying: An Ex-FBI Agent’s Guide to Speed-Reading People by Joe Navarro and Marvin Karlins

This book illustrates which nonverbal clues telegraph untrustworthiness and deception and which radiate sincerity and compassion. In this fascinating take on body language and the ability to decipher it for use in everyday life, Navarro emphasizes that while knowing the reasons for certain behaviors—like touching one’s neck—can be useful in “reading” people, they are not foolproof barometers of deception. A former FBI agent who commonly used these techniques to help crack cases, the author cautions about jumping to conclusions and encourages using clusters of nonverbal patterns to help discover whether a person is lying or just under stress. One chapter is devoted to the brain and its limbic system, which controls those involuntary quirks of behavior. Black-and-white photos illustrate different points throughout. This book is a worthy research tool, and a good addition to larger collections.

Emotions Revealed, Second Edition: Recognizing Faces and Feelings to Improve Communication and Emotional Life by Paul Ekman

Renowned psychologist Paul Ekman explains the roots of our emotions—anger, fear, disgust, sadness, and happiness—and shows how they cascade across our faces, providing clear signals to those who can identify the clues. As featured in Malcolm Gladwell’s bestseller Blink, Ekman’s Facial Action Coding System offers intense training in recognizing feelings in spouses, children, colleagues, even strangers on the street.

The Mating Mind: How Sexual Choice Shaped the Evolution of Human Nature by Geoffrey F. Miller

Evolutionary psychology has been called the “new black” of science fashion, though at its most controversial, it more resembles the emperor’s new clothes. Geoffrey Miller is one of the Young Turks trying to give the phenomenon a better spin. In The Mating Mind, he takes Darwin’s “other” evolutionary theory–of sexual rather than natural selection–and uses it to build a theory about how the human mind has developed the sophistication of a peacock’s tail to encourage sexual choice and the refining of art, morality, music, and literature.

The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine

This comprehensive new look at the hormonal roller coaster that rules women’s lives down to the cellular level, “a user’s guide to new research about the female brain and the neurobehavioral systems that make us women,” offers a trove of information, as well as some stunning insights. Though referenced like a work of research, Brizedine’s writing style is fully accessible. Brizendine provides a fascinating look at the life cycle of the female brain from birth (“baby girls will connect emotionally in ways that baby boys don’t”) to birthing (“Motherhood changes you because it literally alters a woman’s brain-structurally, functionally, and in many ways, irreversibly”) to menopause (when “the female brain is nowhere near ready to retire”) and beyond.

The Male Brain by Louann Brizendine

“In this utterly fascinating follow-up to her bestselling The Female Brain, Harvard neuropsychiatrist Brizendine leads readers through the lifespan of a man’s brain, using lively prose and personable anecdotes to turn complex scientific research into a highly accessible romp. Among other salient info, readers will learn why it is what young boys seem unable to stay still (they are learning through “embodied cognition”); why behaviors may change so suddenly during puberty (among other changes, testosterone increases 20-fold); the nature of irritability in teens (“boys’ hormones prime them for aggressive and territorial behaviors”); and the ways in which chemicals, physical touch, and play bond fathers with their children.

King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine by Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette

The corporate “yes man,” the wife-beater, the hot-shot male junior executive and the emotionally distant father are all boys pretending to be men, observe the authors of this liberating guide to self-transformation. Writing within a Jungian framework, they perceive symptoms of “Boycaps per book psychology” all around us–in men’s abusive behaviors, passivity and inability to act creatively. To help males become more nurturing and mature, Moore and Gillette identify four archetypes of masculine energies from myth and literature: the Lover, brimming with vitality and sensitivity; the Magician, guider of the processes of inner and outer transformation; the selfless and wise King identified with Adam or primordial man; and the Warrior, whose energies often go awry in destructive activity. Dream analysis, meditation, Jungian “active imagination” and ritual processes are among the tools set forth in a clear, concise map to territories of masculine selfhood.

Fire in the Belly: On Being a Man by Sam Keen

The new male that Keen envisions is neither devoted careerist nor self-absorbed New Age guy nor cool, detached “post-modern man.” He is husbandman and steward of the earth–strong, vulnerable, with a capacity for moral outrage, empathy and wonder–whose right livelihood is consonant with ecological awareness. Consulting editor of Psychology Today , Keen ( Faces of the Enemy ) argues that men must define their identities by severing themselves from women as approval-giving mother figures and as the ancient Goddess who continues to exert power within the male psyche’s hidden recesses.

Iron John: A Book About Men by Robert Bly

Today’s sensitized male may be in touch with his “feminine” side, but, writes poet Bly, this “soft male” possesses little vitality and is hobbled by grief and anguish. To achieve real masculinity, Bly argues, men must cultivate a fierce tenderness to be found neither in the macho/John Wayne model nor in the “interior feminine.” Taking as his starting point the Grimm fairy tale “Iron John,” the author sets forth an eight-stage initiatory path whose steps include remembering one’s psychic wounds, communion with a mentor or “inner King,” becoming a lover, reviving one’s inner warriors and receiving a “second heart.”

No More Mr. Nice Guy! by Robert A. Glover

Originally published as an e-book that became a controversial media phenomenon, No More Mr. Nice Guy! landed its author, a certified marriage and family therapist, on The O’Reilly Factor and the Rush Limbaugh radio show. Dr. Robert Glover has dubbed the “Nice Guy Syndrome” trying too hard to please others while neglecting one’s own needs, thus causing unhappiness and resentfulness. It’s no wonder that unfulfilled Nice Guys lash out in frustration at their loved ones, claims Dr. Glover. He explains how they can stop seeking approval and start getting what they want in life, by presenting the information and tools to help them ensure their needs are met, to express their emotions, to have a satisfying sex life, to embrace their masculinity and form meaningful relationships with other men, and to live up to their creative potential.

Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience (P.S.) by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
